Private tutor in Arlington, TX

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (cum laude) and a Master of Arts Degree, as well. Math has always been a subject I have enjoyed and been good at, having personally scored over 700 on the math portion of the SAT test.

Experience

I have been a private tutor for nearly 20 years. I also taught math and science at a private school from 2002-2010, in addition to serving the Arlington ISD as a substitute teacher for more than 10 years. In late 2010, my wife and I opened DB Private Tutoring Services, our home-based private tutoring business. Please see our business website: www.dbprivatetutoringservices.com for complete information on our tutoring, including rates, photos of our tutoring room and home, and testimonials from the parents of our current and former students. You can also visit www.facebook.com/dbprivatetutoringservices to connect with us. We post at least weekly so you have information on upcoming closings, holiday hours, upcoming SAT test dates, STAAR testing dates, and more.

Hobbies

I have a very simple philosophy concerning mathematics education. I believe that everyone can learn math, and most people have more ability in math than they think they do. You do not have to be a brilliant mathematician to achieve at a high level. The key to excellence in mathematics is mastery. When asked what it takes to become a great basketball player, Larry Bird answered: 'First, master the fundamentals.' This is true with most things in life -- to be really good, you have to master the basics. I taught math at a private school for eight years and saw many students come through my classes who struggled with math. I believe the main reason they struggled is that they never mastered the skills taught in their previous math courses. Strong fundamental math skills are vital to success with math. As I work with a student, I constantly evaluate his or her understanding of these vital skills and work to help my students realize the importance of being excellent in the basics of math. I firmly believe -- and have seen it proven again and again -- mastery is the key to success in math.
